The way to understand art is to go and look at it. And if out of a million visitors there is even one to whom art means something, that is enough to justify museums ( Pierre Auguste Renoir)
"Art is a lifetime matter. The best any artist can do is to
accumulate all the knowledge possible of art and its principles, study
nature and practice continually." (Edgar Payne, 1883-1947)

Nov. 13 post

OMG, I forgot to post these paintings from Nov. 13th.
Linda Packard's class continues to be stretching. I just love that! We are doing paintings that are not our usual and stretch our artistic core in ways that we never knew possible.

This is the first in a series of The Old County Rd. by Sue Roberts

This pastel is by Sue, in painting this pastel the composition was awkward
so cropping was in order, hence 3 small paintings that work.

This is the last painting in this series done by Sue. It is a take off from the original photo
of the Old County Road.

This is Liz Donald's pastel that is the first in a series of 2

Pastel by Liz Donald. This is the second in the series that she painted using only one photo.

Priscilla  Ireland painted this pastel in a monotone and it is very effective.

This is Priscilla's pastel that she painted in color for a completely different feel. Same
photo used in painting these.

Priscilla painted this with color but a different feel. This completes her series of 3 using the same
photo

Michelle Walker's beautiful rendered pastel has a feeling of spirituality. This is the
first in her series.

Michelle chose to change her view of this composition for the last pastel
in her series.

Fred Irons painted this pastel using an approach that draws the
the viewer into the painting.

Fred painted this pastel with one color to enhance the composition. This is the last
painting in his series.

Gail Hipsky painted the canola fields in "The County". This is here
first in her series.

Gail's painted this from a slightly different view. This is second painting in this series.

Gail painted her canola fields in a very different abstract form. Number 3 in her series.

Gail's last painting in her series.

Gloria Hodgdon painted this pastel keeping in mind of her series.

Gloria focused in on this tree for an alternate view for the last in her series.

Rita Haunert painted her homestead. Her view and color add to
the interesting composition.

Rita painted the front view of her homestead. #2 in her series.

Another view of her homestead, Rita completed her series of 3

Carol Brooks painted this ocean scene as her 1st in a series.

This is Carol's 2nd view of her ocean scene and her final piece in her series.

Joanne McIntosh painted this pastel as the first in a series.

This is Joanne 2nd pastel and a different view and color.

Joanne's painting is abstract but is still a part of the  original photo and her 3rd in her series.

Joanne's 4th paining is also an abstract. Slightly different view but a completely different feel. The last in
her series.

Another break through!

This week in Linda's pastel class we worked on our "series" paintings. Our assignment was to paint a landscape and then using different angles and cropping painting several more paintings. In effect one photo has many paintings in that photo and by changing color, composition and value one can paint some great paintings.
This was a break thought moment for me. I was focusing on the photo as a whole and wasn't thinking about changing anything. The light bulb went on....and just by changing a few things the painting instantly becomes more interesting.
