The way to understand art is to go and look at it. And if out of a million visitors there is even one to whom art means something, that is enough to justify museums ( Pierre Auguste Renoir)
"Art is a lifetime matter. The best any artist can do is to
accumulate all the knowledge possible of art and its principles, study
nature and practice continually." (Edgar Payne, 1883-1947)

Cloud 9

The Plein Air Group has taken to climbing stairs to the 3rd floor to get to our beloved art room( Cloud 9). The Elevator is our of commission because of a fire in the building. We continue to meet and judiciously haul art supplies up....but we are getting fit at the same time.(big benefit). This minor setback hasn't curtailed us from turning our fabulous art....see below.

Spring is here

The Plein Air Thursday group was busy today feeling the effects of spring. Even though we had a small group today the productivity was kicked up a notch. Priscilla was in spring mode talking about buying a VW bus and camping all around the country. Rita has another new addition, she adopted another Poodle....Buttercup. Can't wait to see her.
Linda Sterns stopped by to visit and she plans on painting with us next week. Michelle was giving us info on the Sculpture symposium coming to the area. Sheila gave us the skinny on the fire at the Senior Center that  disabled the elevator. And I was taking it all in!
We wish our fellow artist and friend, Gigi, a speedy recovery..She can now receive visitors,( two at a time) of short periods. She is in Room 390 at EMMC. We miss you Gigi.
Here is the wonderful paintings that were produced today,
Rita has finished this painting using pastels. The photo does not not
do justice to this beautiful painting.

Rita did some adjustments on this pastel and created a
soft background with a lighter pink sky. She added some of these same
colors to the water resulting is a beautiful painting .

Michelle painted this pastel of the sun behind some dark clouds.
The painting has an organic feel with lots of movement.
Wonderful, Michelle.

Sheila tried her hand at pastels and she expressed the
feeling of age. The boat seems to have been there for some time. I think
she captured it quite nicely. Great Job Sheila.

Priscilla painted this using watercolors. The painting has an Asian feel.
I love the reflections in this painting. Kudos Priscilla.

Priscilla painted this same scene (see above) only
this time using pastels. It is a completely different look and feel.
The soft subtle tones are very effective for a peaceful feel.
Beautiful Priscilla!

Sue painted this water lilly using pastels. The watery effect
was created by using an underpainting.
