The way to understand art is to go and look at it. And if out of a million visitors there is even one to whom art means something, that is enough to justify museums ( Pierre Auguste Renoir)
"Art is a lifetime matter. The best any artist can do is to
accumulate all the knowledge possible of art and its principles, study
nature and practice continually." (Edgar Payne, 1883-1947)

We will get out room back next semester.

The group managed to create some wonderful art.
Terrie painted this sheep using acrylics. The fir is incredible and very difficult to do. Terrie, This is a
little gem!

Sheila concentrating on her watercolor

This is the perfect color!!! Carol uses her pastels today

Gigi painting in the corner….looking good Gigi!

Priscilla and Michelle discuss paintings

Rita packs up her pastels.

Michelle painted this backlit tree using pastels. The orange sky is a great compliment
to the dark blue tree. The light coming in on the lower right side gives the viewer
a place to enter the painting; Lovely, Michelle..
Priscilla is into painting shoes…an they are really cute! She is using acrylics
and this is the third in a series. Love the colors, Priscilla.

This is the photo of the series by Priscilla. I love the fact that she painted 3 different kinds of shoes.

Priscilla painted this girl having a facial, and used acrylics to create this fun loving masterpiece. The folds in the
girls cape capture the movement in the fabric. This contemporary piece just makes me smile !! Wonderful job, Priscilla!

Sue painted these posts of sweet peas using acrylics. This painting is in progress.

This adorable little girl was painted by Sheila using watercolors. She captured this little girl in the
act of painting. Love this, Sheila! wonderful figure painting.

Gigi painted this scene using acrylics. She is part way through and still has the foreground to paint. I know I am going
to love it. The people add that bit of humanity and the square is alive. Great job, Gigi!

Wine Country, Italy. Carol painted this scene using pastels. The warmth in the foreground draws the viewer into
the painting. Yet the houses in the background stand solid and anchor the painting.
Fabulous, Carol!

Rita completed her painting from last week using pastels. The ladies of Italy sitting Great Composition, Rita.

Getting Settled

Painting this again on Thursdays just seems right! Our Plein Air Thursday group met at the Senior Center on our original day…with a few his-cups. Just so you know and are informed we will be painting in the Cafeteria next week, at the Center. It seems we are double booked in the art room until the end of this session, which is 3 more weeks. But Kathy Bernier assures that we will have the art room back next session and until then we will make due in the Cafeteria.
It was so good to see the hale and hardy brave the winter storm to come and paint. Wait until you see the wonderful paintings that they came up with…
NOTE: Joanne McIntosh has a show at the Bangor Public Library for the month of February…Be sure to stop in and see it because it is wonderful.
The Bangor Art Society is displaying their member show in the Bangor Library for the next couple of weeks. Several members of our group had paintings in the show. Yours truly even won.

Back to the business at hand….the fabulous art that is being painted in our group.
Ready??!!

Gigi and Rita

yours truly captured by Priscilla….it's a joke for my husband.

Rita…so glad your back!

Priscilla, Sheila and Gigi during critique

Sheila painted these cows meandering in the field using watercolors. She captured them with an abstract quality
that adds to the charm of this painting. Fabulous Sheila!

Sheila painted this glorious tree using watercolors. The depth of colors and the values make this and exciting
painting. The layering of colors is so difficult with watercolor and she mastered this process in this painting
Beautiful, Sheila!

Sheila is painting this grandfather and grandson in the fields using watercolors. The figures
in this painting is not static as the grandfather bends down to choose a pumpkin. Sheila is
in the process of  completing  this painting. Can't wait to see the finished one!
Great job, Sheila!
Rita painted this European scene using pastels. Her depiction of the Ladies of Italy sitting outside
watching the world go by is a inside into the culture of the country. Her fresh approach and
colorful costumes add to the overall charm. The strong horizontal, windows, building and doors, are juxtaposed to the
horizontal line of the women making for a great composition.. This is a wonderful piece and look forward to seeing the finished painting.. . Lovely Rita!

Sheila painted this laundry scene which is fluttering in the breeze, using watercolors. The lines in this painting
are interesting. You can almost hear the clothes flap in the wind. This is one sweet piece.
Fantastic, Sheila!

Sue painted this plain air on Indian Rock Beach, using acrylics. The wind was blowing and the acrylics were
drying right on the brush. EGADS, that made me paint really fast!

Priscilla out did herself this week…This painting is very large for her and I love it!  This whimsical painting has fun and flair. Wouldn't you like to see this hanging in a spa…it would make me happy, and that is how Priscilla
felt when she painted it.  This contemporary painting is Priscilla's signature….Fabulous, Priscilla!

Gigi painted this rushing Maine waterfall using acrylics. Her bold brush strokes add to the
excitement in this painting. The colors in the rocks are reflected from the foliage and create
a colorful foreground. Gigi this is a masterpiece!

Winter Painting

I go away and look at the art that was created. And while I was on vacation I realized that
I wanted to paint even more…plain air!( as long as I'm on a warm beach)

Carol painted this Italian coast scene using oils. The little buildings in various colors add lots of interest to
these sweet painting. Great values especially on the rocks.  Fabulous, Carol!

Charlene painted this little bird using oils. She utilized the lack of color and the infusion of values to make here point.
The darks are critical to this successful painting. The touch of red for the berries is unexpected and adds to the
interest of this painting. Great composition. Gorgeous Charlene!

I(Sue) painted this scene( "The joggers) on Indian Rocks Beach using acrylics….and it was a windy day. As you can see the
paint literally dried  on the brush before it touched the canvas resulting in strange looking sand.

I (Sue) painted this scene while sitting on the Beach. The acrylics were fighting me the whole way. I did managed to
get the scene painted and even met another artist from Illinois. She was curious and wanted to see my painting. We had
a great talk.
