The way to understand art is to go and look at it. And if out of a million visitors there is even one to whom art means something, that is enough to justify museums ( Pierre Auguste Renoir)
"Art is a lifetime matter. The best any artist can do is to
accumulate all the knowledge possible of art and its principles, study
nature and practice continually." (Edgar Payne, 1883-1947)

When you can't be somewhere warm...

Right in the dead of winter....my Artists friends are taking us to warm places. Thinking of spring with two feet of snow and ice outside gives us all hope. So, hope springs eternal in the art room!

Here are the masterpieces for this week... and they are masterpieces!
Nancy painted this bar of soap in a soap dish with pizazz.
The soap even looks wet. This painting could be very dull
but with Nancy's artistry she made it come alive. Great Job, Nancy!

Nancy painted this still life using oils . The photo does not
do this painting justice. The flower catches light that brings
vitality to this painting. Wonderful, Nancy.

Nancy painted this little piece using oils. She captured
the light and the shadows with precision. The composition
is interesting . Great Job Nancy....and quick!

Gigi painted this Red Cardinal with lots of deep colors. She
captured the essence of this colorful bird. Great Job Gigi.

Gigi painted the female counterpart to the Red Cardinal. The
feathers are not as brilliant but she sure captured this
pretty little bird on canvas. Beautiful, Gigi

Gigi led a demo of watercolor and salt and brought
enough supplies for us all to try it.....What
fun and colorful paintings. These are Gigi's creations
Fabulous Gigi!

Gigi painted this pair of Blue Jays with acrylics. The birds
have personality and are captured on canvas by Gigi.
Great Job Gigi!

Gigi painted this red-headed woodpecker at the bird
feeder. Gigi's series of birds is colorful and interesting
and this one is beautiful.Gigi wonderful job.

Blacked Capped Chickadee by Gigi is a wonderful
example where "less is more" She captured
this little bird on canvas using acrylic. Love this
series, Gigi

Priscilla painted this watercolor and salt "Fluffy" animal.
Fun and creative! Great job Priscilla.

Priscilla sketched a pencil drawing of her dog. This
drawing has lots of movement and the dog is having
fun with his stick. Great job Priscilla.

Sue painted this picture of her sisters and cousin in Vinylhaven.
The lack of faces still create an interesting composition

Charlene is in the process of painting this pastoral scene using
oils. She used an orange ground  under the painting to bring out
the many greens. She will be finishing the animals, next week. Can't wait to
see this finished. Beautiful..Charlene!

Priscilla sketched this pencil drawing of her little cat. Drawing this
friendly feline without overdoing on the line is tricky but
Priscilla has done it. Great Job. Priscilla!

Liz is working on this Paris Apartment Scene using acrylics.
The painting is developing nicely and is colorful and
happy. Great Job, Liz

Rita painted this scene of Fiddlehead ferns in a cluster using pastels. The colors
are interesting and Rita painted the curl of the ferns with their heads bobbing
in the wind to create movement throughout the painting. Beautiful, Rita!

"Painting Rit's Garden" was painted by Carol using acrylics. She captured
Nancy beautifully. The light and shadows add excitement to this
painting. Fabulous Carol!

Carol painted this little turtle using a blob of paint and salt. The fun is trying
to figure out what they become.

Gail painted this red-headed Woodpecker at the feeder
using multimedia. Watercolor, ink, pastel and whatever
Gail can get her hands on is what she used to create this little gem.
Fabulous, Gail!

Gail painted this forest scene using watercolor and pen on yupo paper.
The design is interesting and the colors are inviting. love the white
faded trees in the background. Wonderful, Gail.

Gail can doodle....and here is and example of this. She used ink, watercolor,
pastel and more to create this interesting piece. Keep
doodling Gail, we love it!

Sheila painted this Stonington scene using watercolors. She started
it last week and finished it this week. The color of the tree
is a spring green...and gives the viewer hope for the
good things to come. Beautiful, Sheila
