The way to understand art is to go and look at it. And if out of a million visitors there is even one to whom art means something, that is enough to justify museums ( Pierre Auguste Renoir)
"Art is a lifetime matter. The best any artist can do is to
accumulate all the knowledge possible of art and its principles, study
nature and practice continually." (Edgar Payne, 1883-1947)

August few

This week the Plein Air Thursday group painted inside because of the threat of thunderstorms in the area. We made good use of our time. Gigi had two paintings she wanted to mat and frame. We are all new to the mat cutter so it was a learning experience for us all.
Even though we were only 3 in numbers we painted some wonderful things.
Gigi painted this Sullivan scene using watercolors. The subtle use of color is well used in this painting. The golden
grasses in the front lead us right into the painting.. Beautiful Gigi!

Virginia ( Gigi's daughter) helps Gigi pack up her newly matted and framed paintings while
Linda packs up her things.

This is a pastel painted by Linda. This camp on a Maine lake is so inviting. The boat dock is architectural element that
adds an inviting way to access the painting.  Great job, Linda!

Sue painted this ocean view using acrylics. This is a panting of the "Lone Cypress" on the Pacific coast of California.
Sue tried a new technique to paint the rocks and the consensus is...she likes it.

This is a plein air painting by Sue. She used acrylics to capture the colorful homes in Bayside. She captured the
rhythm of the roof lines that add to the excitement of the painting.

Gigi took on Monet's garden with flair and abandonment. Her loose strokes and and use of
color made for a strong watercolor painting.  Monet would be proud!

Gigi painted this rushing stream using watercolor and pastels. Her ability to simplify
the shapes is exciting and makes this composition great. Its' a beauty, Gigi!

This scene was painted by Gigi using watercolor on Deer Island. Using just a few colors
to create her composition, Gigi added a bit of red to this painting which made it sing!

This is a plein air study by Sue. She painted the neighbor's dock using acrylics. The shadows and reflections were
her method to create the water in this lakeside scene.

Sue painted this Tug while standing on the Belfast dock. This acrylic painting is in progress.
