The way to understand art is to go and look at it. And if out of a million visitors there is even one to whom art means something, that is enough to justify museums ( Pierre Auguste Renoir)
"Art is a lifetime matter. The best any artist can do is to
accumulate all the knowledge possible of art and its principles, study
nature and practice continually." (Edgar Payne, 1883-1947)

From Van Gogh to Matisse

Today we painted in the HSSC. It was a beautiful day to paint outside however the consensus was to paint inside.
On today's post you will see some paintings that have a very Van Gogh feeling and some that have a very Matisse quality. (Master painters are not too shabby to be compared to) . By emulating these styles one can learn so very much.
Sheila painted this landscape using pastels. She used the light
to create this vivid and alive composition. Beautifully done,Sheila!

Sheila painted this "Van Gogh"like painting
using pastels. Her use of vivid colors and interesting
shapes made for a very interesting composition.
Beautiful contemporary art!

Sue painted this scene of Bangor using oils. The light in this
painting is key to it's success.  This painting is
in progress.

Nancy painted this idilic scene using pastels. The
hint of car tracks in the grass lead the viewer right into
the painting. Nancy captured the light on the tree that is
the focal point of the painting. Fabulous, Nancy!

Rita painted this coastal scene using pastels. Her composition is
interesting with only a portion of the boat in the painting. (good cropping) Her
strokes also adds texture making for a very successful painting.
Great Job, Rita
