The way to understand art is to go and look at it. And if out of a million visitors there is even one to whom art means something, that is enough to justify museums ( Pierre Auguste Renoir)
"Art is a lifetime matter. The best any artist can do is to
accumulate all the knowledge possible of art and its principles, study
nature and practice continually." (Edgar Payne, 1883-1947)

Pre-Paint Bangor Day

This week some of us tried to practice for" Paint Bangor Day" and others tried some new approaches for their paintings.
"Paint Bangor Day" is being held on Saturday 9/8/12. Artist register (free) at the UMMA at 40 Harlow St. Bangor at 9am-12noon. All finished paintings must be returned to the Museum at 3pm  for an art show and silent auction.
Here are the works of those who attended.
Carol (left) and Barbara (right) working hard on their paintings.

Michelle (left) and Sheila (middle) and Rita (right) just
before the critique

Sheila painted this painting. The contemporary pattern is interesting
along with the beautiful colors she used. Beautiful, Sheila.

Sheila painted this watercolor of this beautiful blue vase.
The contrast of the blue against the red is eye-catching .
Great job, Sheila

Sheila used a very creative approach for this painting. I apologize for
the bad picture. This painting is interesting and creative.
Love it, Sheila!

This soft pastel scene was painted by Sheila. Her creative use of
color is interesting. Lovely, Sheila

Sheila painted this still life using watercolors. The softness of the
medium makes for a quiet approach to this interesting painting,
Great Job, Sheila.

Michelle painted this seascape using pastels. This painting
is inviting and  beautiful. Great job, Michelle

Carol painted this seascape using acrylics. The sky in this painting is
very interesting and compliments the rest of the painting.
Wonderful, Carol!

Sue painted this scene using oils. The movement of the
horses was difficult to capture. I will have another chance
since this will be my painting for "Paint Bangor Day."

Rita used pastels to paint this happy painting. The colors and the
angles make for an interesting and delightful painting
Wonderful, Rita!

Barbara painted this sweet scene using watercolors. She had told her great-
grandson that "she went to bed with the chickens" and this is her
interpretation...the child asleep on the limb of the tree with
the chickens perched on the end. Exceptional, Barbara!

Barbara painted a close-up version of the chickens and the child on the
the limb of the tree. This is such a happy painting, the viewers break into
a smile. Fabulous, Barbara!
